1964 Volkswagen-based Manx-style fiberglass dune buggy (California Clipper body style). 1641cc fully-chromed engine with stinger exhaust, over $2000 in recent engine/clutch work. New wiring throughout the car. Have some of the receipts from previous owners dating back to the 70's, it appears to have been an LA area car its entire life. It has a battery cut-off switch, all the lights function, speedometer and odometer work. Floor pans and gas tank have been treated with a rust inhibitor. It has a radio in the dash, but it did not come with a faceplate or speakers when I bought the buggy and I've never been interested in replacing them. New starter (6/7/14) and new front tires (6/9/14). It could use a few things (trim work around the edges of the carpet, some paint touch-ups, freshen up the engine [there is normal wear after 50 years], adjust the lengthen of the fuel gauge cable, re-install the gas tank vent line, etc.), but it doesn't look too bad and is currently running and driving just fine. It's street legal, I have a clean title, and the registration was just renewed (good through July of 2015). No smog is needed. It's a great buggy that can be driven and enjoyed as is, or it could be taken to the next level. The usual disclaimers apply: it runs and drives, but it is a 50 year-old buggy. As such, it is being sold as-is, where-is; no warranty expressed or implied. Mileage may increase slightly as the buggy is still driven. $200 deposit due within 24 hours of purchase. Full payment must be received within 7 days unless other arrangements are made prior to purchase. Local buyers are strongly encouraged to come see the car in person before purchasing. Any questions, let me know and I will do my best to answer them for you. Thanks for looking and good luck! 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false This is a completely refurbished 1964 Dune Buggy in excellent running condition. It’s fun to drive and a real head turner down here in Southern California. The Dune Buggy has a 4-speed manual and a 4 cylinder 1600 dual port engine, which has plenty of power. It has a great sounding exhaust with its stinger system. We upgraded to a custom 4-speaker stereo that kicks with a GPS navigation. The horn, signals, headlights, and brake lights all work. It sits on polished aluminum wheels and the tires are practically brand new.We just had a mechanic go through this entire vehicle with a fine toothcomb with receipts to match. Recently we installed a new Webber Carburetor that comes with a warranty. We also got a new fuel pump, filter, break lines, and spark plugs. All you need to do is drive it! This is a very dependable garage kept machine that I would consider a daily driver. It doesn’t shake or vibrate like most of them from that year normally do. The ride is smooth, the transmission is quiet, and it can take you wherever you want to go. (On or off road). It is street legal and comes with a clean 1964 Volkswagen Title. Overall, it is a great buggy and a clean ride. Please let me know if you need any additional pictures. Thank you!

Sure, it's still transportation, but this car was built to put a big grin on your face and nothing else. It offers lots of recent work, so it's not only great looking but also ready to enjoy. We can all but guarantee you'll be the only guy tooling around in one of these even though the look is instantly familiar. Unlike, say, the Myers Manx, this is strictly a 2-seater and that gives it neat proportions that look great, as if it were a cross between a dune buggy and a T-bucket. Long, flowing fenders contrast with the squared-off deck in back, but the whole design is very professional and well-executed so nothing looks sub-standard. Repainted two years ago, the fiberglass is in good condition with no major signs of age and a great gloss that's quite appropriate to something of this vintage. This is motoring down to its barest essence, so there isn't much chrome save for the bug-eyed headlights up front and that big, upright windshield. In back, the VW Beetle engine becomes an integral part of the overall look and it's fascinating to watch this sucker run down the road. More minimalism inside where simple pleated black vinyl looks good, wears well, and is weather-resistant enough for its alfresco duties. Hop over the side of the tub and it's easy to settle in behind the wheel and you'll find that the driving position is more early British roadster than German economy car, and with those big pontoon fenders out there, you can clip apexes more easily than you ever thought possible. Creature comforts are few and that's entirely the point here; anything that wasn't necessary for the job of having fun was omitted. That means no windshield wipers, no heater, not even a radio, simply because you'll be blasting along having too much fun to need to worry about additional entertainment. The VW's original gauge pod was neatly installed in the dash and aftermarket turn signals are affixed to the side of the steering column for safety's sake. Floor coverings are institutional and easy to maintain, which is this car's mantra. VW's air-cooled flat four needs no introduction, and this 1493 cc unit provides plenty of power for the flyweight dune buggy. Painted bright red to match the bodywork, the engine is equipped with the usual hop-up parts, including a bigger carburetor that was installed in June 2014, and exotic exhaust headers with chrome tips that are as much styling element as noise suppression system. The Beetle's 4-speed manual transmission and floor pan made the transition intact and with the low center of gravity, handling is adept. Obviously this was never someone's winter beater, so the underside remains in very good order with no glaring trouble spots. Lots of finned aluminum helps with the air-cooled engine at seed and you'll undoubtedly find that this car loves to play. Oddly enough, GM Rally wheels bolt right on and now carry 205/70/15 front and 235/60/15 rear tires that look positively gigantic on the tiny car's frame. This car also comes with a tow bar to be used behind, say, an RV, suggesting that someone has already realized that a vacation on wheels is what this car is all about. 1969 VW Dune Buggy with 4 seats. I believe this is a Tuff Tub kit that is installed on a full length VW frame. Engine is a dual port but I am not sure what size it is. Battery is located under back seat. I have some new parts on it and some new parts to be installed. It is running but stuck in 1st gear at the present. May need to have the shifter plate adjusted or have the clutch checked, I am not sure. I also have a disassembled spare engine. I have added a few things to make the car street legal in NC but have not finished. I added a GPS speedometer and the mileage on the speedo is at 000008. I do not have a title so I can only offer a bill of sale. Needs small amount of work to make a beautiful car. It turns heads as is. Plenty of leg room since it is on a full length frame. *Had to list title as rebuilt in order to list car. I do not have a title. Buyer is responsible for Pickup/Delivery of vehicle. For sale in our Orlando showroom is a 1972 Volkswagen Dune Buggy. Back in the 60%26acirc;??s anyone who was into cars would be hard pressed not to find an ad in the back of a Popular Mechanics or Hot Vw%26acirc;??s magazine for a do it yourself dune buggy kit. The 60%26acirc;??s and 70%26acirc;??s were a great time for outdoor leisure activities and beach buggies were all the rage. Built off of a reliable easily maintained VW pan and drive train its easy to see why these were a great choice for recreational automobiles. The 1600cc flat four VW engine was rather peppy despite its sub 70hp rating but remove all of the sheet metal and put a light weight fiberglass body on top and you have the makings of something very quick. The current trend in buggies in the 2000%26acirc;??s is no longer low power light weight sand hoppers but quite the opposite. Current buggies are being built with 2332 and other exotic CC engines while being outfitted with dual carbs or turbo chargers to make for a terrifyingly fast street machine. The fun yellow buggy we have at our Orlando showroom is a great blend of yesterdays underpinnings with todays technology. Equipped with a recently built 1600cc dual port engine and 4 speed transaxle the reliability is still up to VW standards unlike the stroker engines that have the tendency to overheat due to thinner cylinder walls. Rowing through the gears is aided by an EMPI short throw shifter with reverse lock out. The wiring harness in this buggy is all new and wired with a modern fuse panel. Why the modern fuse panel and alternator conversion you might ask? Well the answer is simple, its for the sound system. Most buggies contain a simple low wattage stereo system but ours comes with a phenom of a clarion system including 1000w 4 chanel amp, 10%26acirc;? subwoofer, 2 6x9%26acirc;??s in the rear, and 2 6 %26Acirc;%26frac12;%26acirc;??s up front all marine grade from the amp to the speakers. For true fun in the sun it doesn%26acirc;??t get much more nostalgic or entertaining than a manx style buggy. Located in our Orlando Showroom, this 1972 VW Dune Buggy can be seen including HD pictures and videos at GatewayClassicCars.com.
